The Three Classes of Licenced Electrical Worker in Singapore
There are three classes of LEW licences:
- Grade 7: Licenced Electricians
- Grade 8: Licenced Electrical Technicians
- Grade 9: Licenced Electrical Engineers
Licenced Electricians
Licenced Electricians (Grade 7) can design, repair, install, inspect, operate, test, and maintain for electrical and supply installations that does not exceed 1000 volts and the approved load does not exceed 45kVA.
Licenced Electrical Technicians
Licenced Electrical Technicians (Grade 8) can install, repair, inspect, operate, and test for electrical and supply installations that does not exceed 1000 volts and the approved load does not exceed 500kVA. Licenced Electrical Technicians (Grade 8) can design and submit plans and drawings of electrical and supply installations that does not exceed 1000 volts and the approved load does not exceed 150kVA.
Licenced Electrical Engineer
A Licenced Electrical Engineer is a registered professional engineer in Singapore, licenced under the Professional Engineers Act. Licenced Electrical Engineer can design, repair, install, inspect, operate, test, and maintain for electrical installation and supply installation within the operational voltage restrictions.
The operational voltage restrictions and limits are as follows:
a) in operation of up to 1kV
b) in operation of up to 22kV
c) in operation of up to 66kV
d) in operation of up to 230kV
e) in operation of up to 400kV
f) restricted to particular types of installation

How to Search for a Licenced Electrical Worker
EMA (Energy Market Authority) is Singapore's regulatory body for electrical workers. To check if a LEW is licenced, visit the e-license information service portal (ELISE) and search the worker by name, licence number, postal code, or street name.
Check if the Electrical Worker Holds a Valid Licence
